Assistant Professor- IL- Nurse Anesthesia Program

Job Description

Join the dynamic and growing Nurse Anesthesia Program at Midwestern University as it expands to our Downers Grove, Illinois campus. Our program provides students with a solid foundation in the basic sciences, doctoral-level leadership and professional training, and comprehensive instruction in all aspects of anesthesia management, supported by an advanced, state-of-the-art simulation learning center.

Our mission is to educate nurses through rigorous academic and clinical experiences, producing safe, professional, and competent Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologists (CRNAs) / nurse anesthetists who meet the anesthesia healthcare needs of society.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach within the entry-into-practice DNAP program. Examples of courses include Principles and Pathophysiology, Pharmacology for Anesthesia, and Scholarly Projects.

In-Person Requirements

Weekly on-campus work is required and depends on teaching assignments, simulation activities, student needs, meetings, and program responsibilities. Full-time faculty may work remotely up to 2 days per week based on academic activities. However, their primary role is to provide in-person lectures, simulation lab training, and participation in faculty meetings, student advising, and other program activities that require an in-person presence. The nurse anesthesia program maintains flexibility in the work schedule to accommodate the needs of the program and students.

Required Qualifications

To align with standard accreditation guidelines for didactic and clinical faculty, candidates must possess:

  • Active certification or recertification as a CRNA by the NBCRNA.
  • An unencumbered RN and/or APRN license (eligible for licensure in Illinois).
  • A doctoral degree (DNAP, DNP, Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a CRNA.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous didactic teaching or clinical precepting experience.
  • POCUS and regional ultrasound experience
  • AANA Didactic Educator Micro-credential (or equivalent training in Didactic Instruction, Curriculum Writing, and Evaluation).

Position Details & Compensation

We offer a competitive salary with a comprehensive benefits package. This is full-time position (1.0 FTE) and is eligible for tenure track. We may also consider a part-time position (0.5 to 0.7 FTE).
