Physician Assistant/Clinical Instructor- Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine

Job Description

The Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine is searching for a Physician Assistant/Clinical Instructor. This position consists of 80% clinical time as a Physician Assistant and 20% academic time as a Clinical Instructor. This position reports to the Medical Director of the Midwestern University Multispecialty Clinic and Assistant Dean of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM). 

Responsibilities include:

Academic (20% time):

  • Assist with labs in physical examination, clinical skills, and observe and review standardized patient experiences with students.
  • Facilitate small groups and workshops in interprofessional experiences for first- and second-year students.
  • Assist with remediation of standardized patient experiences.
  • Review and score SOAP notes.
  • Review and assist with MWU student medical documentation for completion in rotation management system, including but not limited to pre-rotation physical examinations and vaccine attestations.
  • Participate in admissions interviews for AZCOM.
  • Participate in scholarly activities.
  • Serve on AZCOM committees as assigned.

Clinical (80% time):

  • See and treat assigned patients of all ages in the Multispecialty Clinic, including the Student Health Clinic.
  • Teach students at the bedside as assigned and assess student learning.
  • Participate in quality improvement and peer review.
  • Engage in quality care programs and organize outreach for patient cohorts as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications/Education:

This position requires a Physician Assistant Degree and experience in Family or Internal Medicine.  The candidate must have a license to practice in the State of Arizona, a DEA license, and be insurable for medical liability. 

Computer skills:

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point) and ability to adapt to electronic health record input.

Language skills:

Advanced skills: Ability to read and interpret lab and imaging examinations and other medical records for the care of patients.  Ability to write medical reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups and individuals.

Reasoning ability:

Advanced skills:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with complex medical matters and make rational decisions in patient care.

Mathematical ability:

Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, dosages, and percent and to interpret bar graphs and convert English to metric and vice versa.
