Position Overview

Philadelphia Performing Arts is seeking a passionate and engaging High School Biology Teacher to join our growing STEM and Early College programs. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity, foster critical thinking, and create hands-on learning experiences that connect biology concepts to real-world applications in healthcare, biotechnology, environmental science, genetics, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging high school biology instruction aligned to Pennsylvania and NGSS standards
  • Develop hands-on laboratory experiences and inquiry-based learning activities
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom culture
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners
  • Integrate technology, project-based learning, and real-world STEM applications into instruction
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction and student growth
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, support staff, and school leadership
  • Support students in developing college and career readiness skills
  • Maintain accurate records, grading, and communication with families
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and collaborative planning opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Science Education, or related field
  • Pennsylvania Teaching Certification (or eligibility for certification) preferred
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Passion for student engagement and experiential learning
  • Experience with laboratory instruction and safety protocols
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
  • Interest in STEM innovation, healthcare pathways, biotechnology, environmental science, or early college programming is a plus
